Italian American: Red Sauce Classics and New Essentials: A Cookbook, by Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli
There are a lot of cookbooks on the shelf that highlight Italian cuisine. Some good ones that cover that less respected hybrid, Italian American cuisine. And, at least to my knowledge, only one that combines Italian American cuisine and the coveted Michelin Star seal of excellence, as well as being nominated for the James Beard Award, another coveted cooking accolade.
That’s this cookbook.
And I have to tell you, it makes me proud! In a world of Tony Sopranos, velour tracksuits, and meatball subs as the definition of what Italian American culture is, the fact that these two restaurateurs have refined and elevated that image, brought it into the big leagues if you will, thrills me. Obviously, I’m partial to this, as a lot of the work I do is to, in part, put a chip in this image of my culture and unveil a side of Italian America that is sophisticated, educated, refined, and bursting with creativity.
