Summer Reading
I'm still in summer mode. And that includes lots of books.
This summer, much to my surprise, I’ve actually been reading. I don’t know where it came from, but at some point in June I said to myself—I’m going to read all summer long, one way or another, like I used to. With two small children, reading voraciously hasn’t been at the top of my list for several years now. I’ll read here and there, but not with the alacrity with which I’ve been reading this summer.
So I got myself a stack of books and have been making my way through them. How, exactly? The truth is, I go to bed around 8 pm and wake up at 5 am, which may sound awful, but is actually a blessing, because I can get outside with my coffee (getting a little harder to do now that it’s still dark at that time) and read for a while before my oldest son wakes up. Since I’m still neck-deep in rewrites for my forthcoming memoir, The Dreams that Break Your Heart, I also use this time to write. It’s been a magical little peaceful pocket of the day for me.
I know summer’s drawing to a close, but it isn’t over yet, and I’m not done with my summer reading stack, so here’s some of the books I’ve read or am in the middle of reading so far this season. They’re not seasonal, so they’d be just as good on your winter reading list, if you’re interested. :)
