Last week I shared that we’ll be moving to rural Pennsylvania. Our little cottage-like house sits on six-and-a-half scenic acres, most of which unfolds in our backyard into half open, half wooded property.
I wanted to share a bit of what I’m envisioning for our new home design-wise, where we hope to raise our two small boys in a wild and free manner, giving them space to run, play, get dirty and feel nature between their fingers. Today I’ll focus on the kitchen, the heart of the home and where I spend a lot of my time.
The house is ranch style, and the previous owners made some improvements that we’ll keep (like the wood flooring and the cast iron clawfoot tub in the master bedroom.) Pretty much everything else will go, however! The biggest ticket item on our plate is replacing all the windows. Not only are the current ones in bad shape, they don’t capitalize on the beautiful views that surround the home. Our goal is to make the separation between inside and outside as seamless as possible, so that you feel, even when sitting on the couch in the living room, like you’re with nature. The windows are a vital way to do this.
